Photo policy
Last updated: 15 September 2026
A Wahan report is only useful if its photos can be trusted, and only fair if they respect the people who live and work near the properties we visit. This policy explains both.
1. What we photograph
The property you asked about, from the public side. For a plot or house that means the approach from the road, the full frontage, a photo in each of the four directions from the frontage, the corner markers, the gate and lock, and anything new on or around the property. Our inspector also notes whether the boundary wall is intact and whether anyone appears to be living, working or in possession.
2. How every photo is taken and checked
- Only with the camera inside the Wahan field app. Photos cannot be added from a phone's gallery.
- Each photo records the date, time and GPS location at the moment it is taken, with the accuracy of that location, and its distance from the property.
- Each photo gets a digital fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) on the phone. After upload, our server calculates the fingerprint again from the stored file. If a photo had been changed, the fingerprints would not match, and the photo would be marked as not verified.
- If an inspector retakes a photo that has already uploaded, the first photo is kept for our review rather than deleted.
3. Where our inspectors stand
On public land only: the road, street or public path next to the property. Never inside a property, never on a neighbour's land, never over a wall or through a gate. We do not use drones.
4. People
- We photograph property, not people. Inspectors wait for people to pass and frame photos to leave them out.
- If someone still appears in a photo, we do not try to identify them, and we will blur or remove them on request.
- We never photograph inside homes, through windows, or children on purpose.
- If anyone is present at the property, or objects to the visit, the inspector stops. They may take one photo from the road if it is safe to do so, and then leave. The report says the visit ended early.
5. What we never do
- Enter a property, or ask anyone to let us in.
- Argue with, confront or threaten anyone, or speak for the owner.
- Visit after dark.
- Publish inspection photos on this website or on social media.
6. Who sees the photos
The person who requested the inspection, and anyone they choose to share the report with. Our coordinators see them to check quality before the report is sent. Our inspectors see only the photos they took on that visit. The photos on this website are illustrative sample images, not photos of real inspections.
7. How long we keep them
Inspection photos and reports are kept while the client uses Wahan and for up to 7 years after, because they may be needed as evidence in a property matter. See our privacy policy for details.
8. Asking for a photo to be removed
If you appear in one of our photos, or a photo shows your home, email hello@wahan.app with the address and roughly when the visit happened. We will blur or remove what we can. Where a photo is the owner's evidence of the condition of their own property, we may keep a version with people or neighbouring private areas blurred.
9. Changes
We may update this policy as the service grows. We will change the date at the top of this page.
